"'Honor' Killing for God: Dad's Sick 'Confession,'" by Austin Fenner and Hasani Gittens for the New York Post, August 6

A Muslim father accused of murdering his daughter in a so-called "honor killing" told cops God would look out for him, as he confessed to the grisly strangulation, authorities said yesterday.

"God will protect me. God is watching," Pakistani immigrant Chaudhry Rashid allegedly confessed to cops. "I strangled my daughter."

At a preliminary hearing yesterday, Detective Mike Christian told a judge Rashid copped to killing his daughter on July 6 with a bungee cord because she had filed divorce papers and was having an extramarital affair.

Christian said Rashid was found sitting in his driveway smoking a cigarette when cops arrested him.

Rashid, 56, waddled into a Georgia courtroom yesterday in shackles to fight murder charges in the death of his only daughter, Sandeela Kanwal, 25, at his home in Jonesboro, an Atlanta suburb.

Kanwal, who worked at a Wal-Mart, wanted to escape her loveless six-year marriage to a Chicago man, Majid Latif, cops said.

Rashid went into a murderous rage after apparently growing tired of numerous arguments with his daughter, concerned that their clashing cultural values would reflect poorly on him and his family, said the detective....

Hanny Lightfoot-Klein, who has worked in the Middle East and Africa and written books on honor killings and genital mutilation in the Muslim world, had another view.

"They do not leave their customs behind when they cross borders, the customs come right with them," she said.

"If any woman in the family in any way does something that dishonors the family, the whole family is dishonored, they are the laughingstock of the whole community, because they 'don't know how to control their women.'

"And the only way this blight on their honor can be eradicated is to kill the one who has committed the crime."

honor killings are on the rise and they are not happening just in islam.

One has to wonder how long the U.S. will continue to tip toe around its relationship with Islam and Muslims. There seems to be so many situations in which anything to do with Islam is treated with kid gloves by politicians and the politically correct in fear of offending its members. If it had been Jewish terrorists who had attacked the twin Towers, would the building of a synagogue at the site even be in anyone's fantasy? I strongly doubt it. Yet, when Muslims are involved in terrorism, so many of our politicians want to pretend Islam had nothing to do with it. They need to wake up and listen to what the terrorists and their hate filled [followers] are saying. [...]

Religious tolerance in the U.S. has increased a great deal over the decades, but as long as Islam continues to be treated differently than other religions, and fundamentalists are given a pass, most Americans will want to have little or nothing to do with the religion or its members. There are those who say that we are the ones at fault, we need to better understand Muslims and Islam, and the planned center and mosque near Ground Zero will help in that process. Actually, our politicians need to stop making excuses for the violence fundamentalist Islam supports, and its perpetrators need to start making room for the rest of the world in their currently narrow and hate filled version of reality. Those who say Americans need to better understand Islam need to rethink the problem. They should direct their efforts instead to attempting to teach fundamentalist Muslims the concept of tolerance of others first, since they are the source of the problem. That would be the best way to begin to inspire non-Muslims in the U.S. and the rest of the world to change their view of the tradition and to see beyond its violence for the good it can hopefully offer the rest of the world.

Up until the other day talking with my sister, I did not know much on this issue. She had mentioned that her friend could not come over to a bonfire she was having because there would be guys there. When I questioned as to why they could not come she said if her friend even dated a guy her family would kill her. I was very shocked by this so I decided to do some research on it and found that this is a very common practice amoung many muslims.

Innocent lives are being taken away every year because of this and something needs to be done about it.

Cultural clash!  In the third world, there is not as much value placed on life as there is here.  It's something you realize traveling to third world countries, some of the world is still living in the dark ages.  We're only a few centuries away from a time when they burned witches, but then again as a nation we still practice torture and drop bombs on civilians.

Culutre shmulture, this sh*t is wrong.  There seems to be a lot of it in the Ohio / Michigan area.  The American, freeedom loving citizens there need to step up and put a stop to this.  I have many posts on this site about Islam and their evil practices of killing women and shutting everyone up.  They are sneaking mosques in all over.  They are popping up even here left and right.

The brave people of Staten Island protested every day on the street until the cardinal relented and refused to sell the old convent to a mosque.  They were honest, they said they didn't want Muslims around after 911 and being so close to it.  WHO WOULD?   Give me a break.

People try to be politically correct and say that there are traffice problems, etc.   That doesn't work.  They tried that about five miles from my house, now there is an Islmaic Center there.  You don't see Muslims staring people down around here yet, but if you go closer to the city you do!  Stupid women givng ME dirty looks, because they are slaves and want us all to be. YEAH RIGHT.

Mysticman, if you haven't yet, please check out atlasshrugs.com.  It is full of information on the Islamic infiltration of America.  It is not just a different culture, it is a different system of life that will destroy America.  If you want to go eat felafels and watch belly dancers fine, but this Islam is no joke.  It means to take over the world, with OPPRESSION and INJUSTICE for all.

Barb I would think you would like their brand of justice under Sharia Law.  They kill people who break God's law, don't eat pork, don't eat shellfish, don't wear blended fibers, and they kill homosexuals, adulterers, and anyone who has "promiscuous" sex outside marriage.  This seems right up your alley.

First off, if you believe it was Muslim terrorists who committed 911, you haven't done your research.  Secondly, there's a propaganda campaign underway to demonize Islam and perpetuate a holy war.  It's paranoia and feeding the war machine.  Islam is a religion that promotes peace, but can be interpreted to inflict violence, much like Christianity has been used for centuries to justify war, violence, and torture.  You're judging an entire religion based on the actions of a minority of extremists.  If America is in danger of being destroyed by  anyone, it's those multi-billionaires in charge and the military-industrial complex that you should be concerned about.

Let me break it down for you Mysticman.  I don't believe that the Muslims brought down the Twin Towers alone, that is for sure.  Maybe they weren't involved at all.  But the Muslim world is rejoicing over it and taking credit for it.  If they put a mosque on ground zero, it will symbolize their conquest of Western society.

It is about symoblism.  It is not about Muslims being great fighters, it is about them being pushed, whether by their own efforts or in concert with the efforts of those who are in power, the billionaires, the mititary-industrial complex or whomever you speak of,  to take over the world.  Their religion is backwards, misogynistic, racist, and tolerant of murder.  It is not the American way or the Christian way.

I am judgeing on first hand accounts of Muslims, victims of Muslims and their own Koran.  I have done my research.  How about you?

I can take quotes from the Bible to say the same things about Christianity.  They are two very similar Judaic-rooted religions.  I still say that honor killings are a cultural phenomenon that are not practiced by the majority of muslims worldwide.  We have laws against murder in this nation and anyone moving here needs to respect that or not come at all.  In my opinion, it is not Muslims nor Christians who are trying to take over the world, but rich devils disquised as both.  It's all about misleading people and creating division and hate.  That is how they maintain power and keep people fighting and divisive.

Division maintains peace, not unity.  Too much unity stifles people until they go crazy and explode.  You haven't done your Muslim research, that I can see.  You have a very faint grasp on Christianity as well.  Come out of the mist, Mysticman.

Seriously? Division maintains peace? Unity stifles people until they go crazy and explode?  Oh, okay I'm just clueless then, in a mist.  Well, I don't think I can offer an intelligent reply to such insightful comments, in other words...you lost me...

The one world government of the antichrist is a unity.  If you want to unite with evil people like Muslims, they will stifle you and cause you to revolt.  God created the different languages to keep people apart and from hurting each other by their unity in climbing to heaven with the Tower of Babel.

People don't have enough in common for there to be unity.  The only thing they have in common is evilness.  They will creat evil if they are unified.  The smaller the world gets, the more evil it gets.  There is nowhere to run and hide from your enemies, they are everywhere.

People fail to realize what a haven the USA is, despite all of its faults.  If it were really a horrible, immoral place, people would be running from it, not running to it.  You don't want to live in a third world country like in South America or Mexico.  You don't want to live under a Muslim regime of oppression.  You need to keep America for Americans and free.  That takes effort and fighting, just like it did in the beginning.

You are in a mist of self imposed delusion.  You think everyone is nice, everyone is the same.  That is a lie.  Come out of the mist.

The one thing all humans have in common  is their humanity.

What is humanity then?  It is the nature of mankind that is evil.  God regretted creating man, because his heart always turns to evil.  He wiped most of them out with a flood.  He said he wouldn't do it again, because he is merciful.  We can't really help how we are, but the fact is that we are no good.  Mens' hearts are desperately wicked.

The only way out of the mess is Jesus Christ as the redemption for our sins.  He made atonement for us with his blood, now we must choose to follow him.  There is no other way out of the doom that is befalling humanity.

You can take this as good news if you accept Jesus, or bad news if you just want to do your own thing.  The good news is that we don't have to die and suffer.  I would go with the Jesus plan if I were you.

Don’t claim to know what I think, you couldn’t be more wrong. You call me delusional, yet you claim that evil is the common thread between people, that people coming together creates evil, and you see enemies everywhere. That’s twisted and paranoid.

Does love and compassion fit anywhere into your conception of humanity?  Who was it that said, love thy enemies?

This is the fundamental flaw in your negative worldview. yes there are evil wicked men in the world and people can be selfish and mean, but it doesn't mean that all humanity is evil.  Even I, who have contempt for most people, can see that.  People just want to live and be happy.  We are the product of our own imperfect world and because of that we do what we need to do.  I cannot place hope or wishful thinking in the foolish idea that somehow some invisible sky god is going to redeem us. It is up to US to fix our problems and learn to work together for the betterment of all mankind.  THAT is the only way to redemption.

See now you are all cranky Mysticmess.  You are displaying anger and hostility.  That is offensive to me, Mr. High and Mighty.  The only reason I might turn the other cheek is that Christ died for me, because I am a sinner as well.

You can believe what you want.  I never told you anything other than the answer to your stupid question.  You can twist yourself into a pretzel and choke for all I care.

Barb why are you always so full of anger and hatred?  You seem to embody all that Christ claims is wrong with the world.  Maybe you need to look into your own heart and figure out what is wrong and fix it.  Then maybe your life would be better and you wouldn't spew bile and venom all the time.
